Information
I do a fair bit of design work for a living, ranging from web design to identity/logo design to photo manipulation. One growing and fun category in the design world is infographics. Having evolved from simple graphs and charts, designers are rapidly realizing that we live in a visual society, and breaking information down (especially complex, intricate information) is especially important. GOOD Magazine has put a lot of emphasis on infographics,... Read More
Highest Peaks in Oregon
Growing up in Michigan, the highest peak didn’t even grace 2,000 feet. Beautiful as they were, the hills didn’t inspire the same awe as having Mount Hood on your horizon. Now that I’ve lived in Oregon for many years, I’ve grown accustomed, and even expectant of having snowcapped mountains to gaze at, even on a sunny July day. Pretty fantastic indeed. Read More
Impactist: An Inspiration
When traipsing from blog to blog, article to article on the internet, I often come across designs or films or videos that make me pause and think “damn, that’s amazing. I should be doing stuff like that.” And when I happened across Impactist yesterday, I got a double whammy. Not only is their work fluid and gorgeous and dynamic, but it’s poignant and poetic at the same time. And to top it all off, they’re a married couple... Read More

week.end.
A quieter weekend than last. The weather is decidedly more subdued, seasonal and contemplative. The freakish beauty of last week was an anomaly, and while certainly welcome, it’s not unexpected that we’re back to a bit of drizzle. I have been playing with my (semi) new camera more, and it’s a powerful contraption. I am not skilled in the technical settings, but getting a hold of it. Here are some evening shots taken at my house: The... Read More
lovely weekend
After a brutal March, Portland has proven that it too, enjoys sunshine once in awhile. It’s cliché to talk about the people that come out of the woodwork when it’s nice out, but man! Biking past the many southeast parks this afternoon, it was stunning how crowded they were. Basketball games, lounging, sleeping, reading, tightrope walking, skateboarding, picnicking and just plain milling around with grins on faces. It’d be hard... Read More
dinosaur garden pt. II
Strangely, Portland Oregon is home to a number of rare and wonderful dinosaur species. They are considered pygmy variety, and can be found co-habitating with other pygmy animals such as pigs, whales and Komodo Dragons. They are generally tame and will allow strangers to pet them. It is not recommended to disturb their natural habitat too much, however. Read More
new office
A few weeks ago I got an invite to move into a beautiful architecture studio in the Pearl- a former warehouse district on Portland’s NW side that has been radically transformed over the last ten years. It was an invite that seemed to be a bit too good to be true. I would be invited to continue my freelance work at this office- RENT FREE (!)- and possibly even get some new work out of the deal. It just so happens that the architecture firm,... Read More
Dinosaur Hike
Kirsty and I met up on Saturday morning and took a bikeride to NW, and a hike in delicious Forest Park. Even after almost three years in town, it stills amazes me how huge the park is. You can be in seemingly deep forest, hearing nothing but the sound of your own footsteps, and venture fifty feet down a path and find yourself in a dense neighborhood. The moss and trees seem to have a symbiotic relationship, and it’s as if the branches of the... Read More
