Politics

My oh my…..

It is an ugly landscape these days.

I follow politics on a daily basis, but lately I’m torn on whether I should continue paying attention, or turn away in disgust, and embrace the idea that ignorance is bliss.

Now I live in Portland. I drive a Subaru and ride my bicycle. You can guess pretty easily what camp I fall into. However, the Left seems to be failing in their ability to pass meaningful legislation, and the Right are using all of their power to block progress of any type. It sometimes feels like Dumb and Dumber.

The midterm elections swung the pendulum to the right, only two years after Obama was swept into office in an historic election. In a combination of fear, disillusionment and ignorance, the electorate seems to be heading to the brink.  Instead of seeking to think big picture, working honestly and earnestly to improve our country, people are screaming about issues like the deficit, all the while blindly forgetting that Wall Street & Co. got us into this mess in the first place.

Below is a quick primer on the state of the US Government, and our reality in post-election 2010.
